The Synology DS1817+ and DS1517+ NAS – An Update on release

Synology are set to release the Synology DS1817+ and DS1517+ NAS

The Synology DS1517+ NAS for 2017 April Release world Great news for those who have been waiting literally years now for the release of an update to the 2014 released DS1815+ and DS1515+. At a recent ‘ITPartners Expo’ in France, synology were present and had on display the latest releases for 2017 – and right there for all to see, was the Synology DS1815+ 8-Bay NAS and DS1517+ 5-Bay NAS. Originally uncovered by the guys at Cachem, details are incredibly thin at this time, but details are already emerging from a Synology source that the previously mentioned Q2 release was correct and with mention of April 2017. How accurate this is (especially given that it is already half way through March)  is something that we will treat with caution, but for those that have been awaiting a solid 8-Bay or 5-Bay Desktop NAS from the guys at Synology will not have to wait too much longer.

There is now just two questions left to answer. What are the specs of the Synology DS1517 and DS1817+and when can I buy it? We hope that questions like these adn more about this popualr NAS will be answered at CeBit 2017 next week. Why not checkout our overview of the new releases from Synology for 1817+ and 1517+ from SPANTV .

What is the release date for the DS1817+ and DS1517+ NAS?

The Synology DS1517+ NAS for 2017 April ReleaseOf course, the specs of the DS1817+ NAS from Synology are still awaiting confirmation, but we are expecting a solid Quad Core Intel CPU (Possibly the same or a revision of the Celeron currently in the DS916+) and at least 4GB of memory that can be expanded all the way to 16GB. Anything less than this would appear a touch short sighted in the current technological trend. I think we can summize from Synology’s most recent releases that things like HDMI and audio out will not be featured. Likewise from the look of things, the chassis will be near enough identical to that of the DS1515+ and DS1815+ – not that this is a bad thing, what it lacks in comparison to the outspoken functionality of the QNAP chassis, it gains in compact, quiet, stability. Very much akin to the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it mentality’. We will no doubt hear a little more in the coming days and no doubt see a bit, BIG reveal at CeBit next week (as we mentioned previously).

The Synology DS1817+ NAS for 2017 April Release schedule One last extra special mention should go out to the guys at cachem.fr for their coverage of the Synology at ITPartners 2017 and for the images in this article – full credit to them for getting the images and do check them out for what’s happening with tech over there.
