Synology DS1419dva Diskstation NAS with Nvidia GeForce Support

Brand New Synology DS1419dva NAS for 2019

With the Synology 2019 Launch event happening right now (over the next two months we will be seeing several separate events in different countries taking place) we are getting a better idea fo what Synology have in store for us in 2019. One of the most interesting pieces of hardware that we have heard about so far is the DS1419dva 4-Bay NAS for graphics rendering optimized surveillance. The new DS1219dva diskstation is another new type of storage device from Synology that promises to support the surveillance station application in a way that shadows over previous CCTV focused network attached storage such as the NVR216 and NVR1218.

Several examples of how the deep video analytics functionality could be implemented in many surveillance applications were provided. The first was how both the live view adn teh archive recordings could be analyized by the system live to provide different results. On the left it is keeping track of all people n the frame, whereas in the right the camera was setup to only notice/report if a ‘bike’ entered the field of view.

Who is the Synology DS1419dva Diskstation NAS targetted at?

There have already been some great advancements in the Synology Surveillance station application, with features such as LiveCam view with your mobile, YouTube camera streaming, improved time-lapse view and more. However, the Synology DS1419dva is designed to support AI these features, PLUS support new smart and deep learning analytics being introduced into Surveillance station 8. These live and archival features (such as the system recognizing an object or person in searching, then actioning as needed) require a good chunk of rendering power and the DS1419dva arrives with an NVidia GeForce GPU component to assist in Deep Video Analysis (DVA). There is still not real confirmation whether the DS1419dva is a Surveillance ONLY device (such as the NVR1218) or if it is a DSM 7.0 enabled NAS like others (as I can see a lot of functionality for that GPU in non-surveillance applications).

The next example of Deep video analytics provided was one showing a man on a subway who left a suspicious bag. In the default camera recording, it recording the man coming, standing, leaving the bad and walking away – nothing else. Whereas in the DVA equipped system, the surveillance station application was smart enough to notice a bag was left, noticed and actioned an alert on it.

What are the Specifications of the Synology DS1419dva NAS?

Hardware specifications are very thin on the group at the moment regarding the DS1419dva Synology Diskstation, however, there are some details available. Check them out below and remember to bookmark the page/subscribe, as I will be updating them as I find out more.

  • 4-Bay NAS Supporting upto 14TB 3.5″ Bay HDD and the latest SATA 2.5″ SSD
  • Can be expanded with two of the DX517 NAS Expansion
  • NVidia GeForce GTX Support
  • Multiple LED for System, Access and Storage Acess
  • 4x RJ45 LAN Ports
  • Front Mounted USB 3.0 Port
  • More Specs will be added as they become available

Another example that was provided was one showing the intelligent DVA surveillance platform counting visitors entering a building/space by letting you add lines of contact on screen and it registering how many people passed through it, but also being smart enough to notice people coming in a different direction and working out who stayed/left.

When will the Synology DS1419dva NAS be Released?

Release details of the Synology DS1419dva were unconfirmed by Synology at the event but given the specialist nature of the device, as well as the unconfirmed internal hardware specs and large DSM 7.0 associations, I think this will be released for Q1/Q2 of 2019. Of course, this is speculation and only based on previous release behaviour by Synology in the past. I will update this page when I have a confirmed release date.

How much will the Synology DS1419dva NAS cost?

As this is a 4-Bay NAS device, the DS1419dva could easily be compared in price with the likewise 4-Bay DS918+ at around £500 without media, however, if the DS1419dva diskstation NAS is a surveillance specialized device, then I think we will see prices in excess of £650. Of course, this is mere speculation and we will have a much clearer idea of the price of the Synology DS1416dva when further specifications are revealed and release date made clearer. For now, I recommend that you click the button below to confirm availability and more.
