Wait for TS-351 or buy TS-453be

Wait for TS-351 or buy TS-453be. I don’t buy new network hardware very often, so I want to be reasonably futureproof. (my current NAS is a dlink DNS-321)

I plan on running RAID 5, a PLEX server, recording about 5 surveillance cameras, using it for periodic remote access to files, and a periodic backup of photos on 4 phones.

I’m using Kodi on a rooted chromebox to play videos my current NAS, but i’d probably switch over to the HDMI output if the interface is friendly enough.

Do you think the TS-351 processor from 2014 would be up to the task or should i drop more cash and get the TS-453be, or something with more horsepower?

The TS-351 will not be very future proof NAS. If you need something to last another 5 years- consider getting TS-453Be with 3 drives inside. It will easily handle more than 5 IP cameras and even let you access them remotely. You will also be able to access your files on the move and back them up automatically when your phones and other devices are located within your local network (or even remotely if you want to). Dual HDMI ports will allow you to run KODI on one and use another one as a computer or surveillance monitor.
