Can I turn of second RAID to keep NAS silent?

I have been looking at the DL3617xs and other units and I have a technical question that relates to this unit and others in general.

I would like to use a mixture of 2.5″ SSD’s and 3.5″ SATA HardDrives. SSD for being silent and fast. Plus 3.5″ HardDrives for the reducing the cost of bigger volumes of data. These would be set up as different RAID’s e.g. 2.5″ SSD’s as RAID F1 and 3.5″ HardDrives as RAID 6

The question is when the unit is working is it possible to sleep / turn off each separate RAID so for example I could turn off the HardDrive RAID 6 to make the Unit almost silent for when I want to work in the same room as the Unit?

This wants to be easy to do. If this is possible can it be that each RAID can be automated separately to come on and off at set times and or any other conditions?

Also would this work if I had the two RAID’s as described above plus one or more HardDrives just as JBOD’s? Could they all be controlled individually…?

This is their best desktop NAS. Nice choice.
You can indeed create separate RAIDs and volumes. But you can not disconnect a RAID.
Best you can do is wise WD Red drives. These drives feature a hibernation option when not used. So if you don’t mount HDD volume on your computers and setup NAS with SSD RAID first- these drives will hibernate most of the time.
