DS2422+ vs DS1821+

DS2422+ vs DS1821+

IF I had to choose between:

(a) buying a new DS2422 and populating it with my current 8 Seagate EXOS 16 TB drive PLUS buying 4 more identical drives in 2 drive failure SHD and a hot spare capped out at 108tb limit and dealing with the incompatibility issues for non-conforming drives and also having to buy the cache card to drop in my (2) 2tb inland SSD

OR

(b) upgrading my current 1821 with (8) Seagate 18tb EXOS drive to replace my current (8) Seagate 16tb EXOS drives so that I could max out my 1821 with 108tb storage

which would you choose and why.

Assuming money is not a major driver or consideration.

It is pretty much the same NAS. The main difference is the number of bays and built-in NVMe caching slot. Synology have a bad reputation on ds2422+ regarding drive locking. They promised to never do this with plus series, but they didn’t keep the promise. For that reason and NVMe slot, I would pick ds1821+. Synology also overcharge people on upgrade cards and RAM modules. Having these slots built in will save you some money on upgrades later on.

Here is a hardware comparison table below.

I hope this helps.
