NAS for 4k support and HDMI2.0a

4k multi 2.0a and super powerful processor

I need to download movies, pictures and music from iphones and ipads and play them on all devices including smart tv’s. I also download all of the above from the internet. Everything I own is newer so it plays all HDR. I own a hi res music system which only means that is finicky and sound like crap if the source isn’t any good. I own all the apple devices known to mankind and a windows laptop. I would like the NAS to be a little overkill. LOL. I just want everything to go fast with all the correct connections with no lag at all.

As long as your TVs are HDR and multimedia formats are on the compatibility lists the choice is easy. Streaming on mobiles might require on the fly transcoding because those devices can not stream 4K or WiFi is simply too slow to do that. HDMI2.0a does solve the transcoding and network bandwidth issue, but it only connects to HDMI enabled devices. You use automated offline transcoding function to create another version besides the original which would be streamed to those devices. The recommended NAS for such requirements will be Asustor Nimbustor models. It features HDMI2.0a for directly connected streaming and it also is capable of transcoding 4K on the fly. Qnap is releasing its first HDMI2.0a NAS TS-251D, but it has only two drive bays.

If you want super-powerful processor, then TVS-872XT (and other XT series) will give you such performance but will be limited to HDMI2.0 (non a). But with compatible TV you can easily stream via ethernet. This will resolve multiple HDMI port requirements.
