New QNAP 9-Bay TS-963X NAS featuring RJ45 10Gbe, dedicated SSD Bays and HDD Bays for 2018
A new 9-Bay NAS has been revealed for 2018 for QNAP and it is very much what you would expect from the innovators of NAS industry. This new compact desktop NAS device features 5 Hard Drives bays and 4 dedicated SSD bays, for enabling the tiered storage for which they are becoming the market leaders. This multi-storage device arrives not only with an unparalleled storage layout, but also features a new AMD based CPU and impressive connections.
The QNAP TS-963X feaures an AMD GX-420MC Quad-Core Processor, 2.0Ghz per core and 64bit in architecture. This virtualisation ready CPU arrives with upto 8GB Memory configuration of DDR4 memory. As this is x86 CPU, this device Supports everything from virtual machine management, Plex (though not really the right NAS for this and awaiting confirmation) snapshots, tiered storage over the different hard drive and solid state drive media, as well as many, many functions of the QTS 4.3.4 software from large scale IP Camera surveillance, to multimedia use in the home or office via the 10Gbe connection.

The TS-963X from QNAP features a brand new chassis and as well as the separate storage compartments, also features the following:

- 4 Dedicated SSD Bays (2.5″)

- Multiple LEDs for Power, System Status, Network Access and Drive Behaviour/Health

- Front Mounted USB 3.0 USB Copy Button and Port

If we look at the rear of the device, we see several features (new and old) that make this up and coming device stand out from the usual bog standard 5 Bay NAS around at the moment:
- Single Rear fan with automatic temprature adjustments
- Rear speaker

- 2x 1Gbe RJ45 LAN
- 1x 10BASE-T 10Gbe Port (RJ45)
- 1x USB 3.0 Port

Who is the QNAP TS-963X NAS for?
The QNAP TS-963X is a NAS designed fro those looking for a solid entry point into the world of 10Gbe, featuring a graphically supported CPU from AMD, this means that virtualisation, on the fly editing of larger and elaborate files and multimedia use is going to be available, at at 10x the usual speed. Additionally, as this is the 10GBASE-T version of 10GBe, it means that it will be the far more affordable and accessible RJ45 based connectivity that mean you can gradually introduce this NAS and format into your home/office environment. This will be of particular interest to photo editors, videographers and content creators. We are still awaiting more details about how far this device can go with the popular QTS 4.3.4 software from QNAP in terms of multimedia, surveillance, the 1st party office applications and more.
When is the QNAP TS-963X NAS going to be released?
Details are still thin on the ground, but I think we will most likely see this device available around the end of Q2 of 2018 – though you should still treat that with a grain of salt and recommend you subscribe to keep up to date on updates on the QNAP TS-963X NAS. Stay tuned!
