Brand New Powerful 4-Bay RS1619RPxs NAS from Synology
ANOTHER new Synology uncovered! It really is bloody RAINING Synology NAS! This latest NAS server that will be formally revealed in Taiwan in a week or two is the latest NAS to join the elite XS series of devices. This new Synology RS1619RPxs Rackstation NAS has several rather groundbreaking features (for Synology and their rather rigid design) and has definitely warmed me towards the latest model. Unlike every new Synology 2019 series NAS we have told you about on NASCompares so far, this new 4-Bay has no predecessor. Till now the XS series was never available as a 4-Bay Rackmount NAS and until now buying an XS NAS meant that you needed to buy a powerful NAS that had a big storage option from day 1. However, this generally means that the cost is considerably higher than other 4-Bay N AS devices and creates an unpopular divide between devices when choosing. This was solved a tiny bit last year with the DS3018xs, but the Synology RS1619RPxs is a really positive step in the right direction in balancing hardware power and total storage options. Even though the RS1619RPxs is Synology’s first real 4 Bay XS Rackmount NAS, it manages to cram in almost all the features and functions of the larger XS server devices, whilst still no-doubt being much, much more powerful than the RS818+ and RS818RP+. So, let’s find out more about what could potentially be the most powerful 4-Bay Rackmount NAS Synology has ever released.
What are the Specifications of the Synology RS1619RPxs Rackstation NAS?
The new RS1619RPxs tells us a lot about itself just by looking at the model number. However, some of the core details are still wrapped in secrecy and we will, of course, find out more as time goes on. Below you will find confirmed details about the specs of the RS1619RPxs and other details we can make pretty certain estimations on (marked with TBC). Take a look:
- It will almsot certainly feature a Xeon or a Pentium D CPU (dual core 2.2Ghz as found in the DS3018xs, TBC)
- NVMe SSD Support for SSD caching is confirmed
- No Mention of PCIe for 10Gbe, 40Gbe or SUpport of the new M2D18, but likely for an XS class NAS
- Can be expanded if you connect the Synology RX1217 or RX1217RP to add an additional 12 bays, making a maximum 16x HDD/SSD media
- It will almost certainly be Supporting DSM 6.2 to the fullest extent (Virtual Machine Manager, Active Backup server, All Synology collaboration apps and surveillance)
- 4x LAN ports
- 5 Year Warranty
- Also arriving with the SRS – Synology Replacement Service for Advanced replacement support
- It will support the latest 10TB, 12TB and 14TB (currently only HGST) Hard Drives
- Arrives with a Redundant Power Supplier, so you have a safety net in the event of a PSU failure
- Supporting BTRFS and SHR (Synology Hybrid RAID), as well as standards like EXT4 and all the traditional RAID levels like RAID 0,1,5,6,10,etc
When will the Synology RS1619RPxs NAS be Released?
If you are looking for a NAS that leverages its pricetag in favour of internal hardware and support, but still keeps the option of additional storage when you need it, the up and coming Synology RS1619RPxs (and possibly RS1619xs) is easily the best long-term NAS and even challenges many enterprise desktop units, thanks to it’s smaller scale. Details very thin and will have more very soon from the Synology events in Taiwan and Hannover, outside Computex and CeBit 2018.
