Brand New Synology DS1819+ Desktop NAS for 2019
With so much high-end rackmount and Surveillance optimized hardware being discussed at Synology, it is great to hear that there is a brand new Diskstation 8-Bay DS1819+ NAS coming. Although this is not the first 8-Bay Synology Diskstation, all indications point to it being a spiritual successor to the DS1817+ from 2017 featuring a reliable Intel CPU, DDR4 memory and PCIe upgradability. Featuring new hardware options in a familiar chassis, this could easily be the next desktop NAS for content creators of all times, from Photographers and video editors looking for a 10GBe upgradable entry point for live storage access to those looking for a robust RAID-enabled NAS that sits at a good price vs capacity price point. So, let’s find out more.
Who is the Synology DS1819+ Diskstation NAS targetted at?
The new DS1819+ Diskstation sits on the shoulders of the popular 8-bay network attached storage that came before it, released in 2 year cycles (DS1817+, DS1815+, DS1813+, etc) and with each generation, the external changed marginally, but the internal hardware grew more and more (always maintaining a near identical price point too, which is pretty impressive in technology). With network storage drives being increasingly popular and home/business users want a good sized capacity in their NAS drive, a solid 8 HDD/SSD RAID equipped desktop NAS drive, that provides smooth storage is always in high demand. Although the hardware is equipped almost all Synology first-party and third-party applications, the DS1819+ is geared more towards users looking for fluid, reliable file access and general file management for hundreds of users. Likewise, it features great memory upgrade options, 10GBe utilization at a later date via the installation of the E10G18-T1 and E10G18-T2, SSD performance upgrades with the M2D18 and NVME SSD media and already arrives with 4 RJ45 LAN to enable upto 425MB/s speeds via link aggregation. In short, if you need fast, reliable access to your files, folders and directories for hundreds of users at once, the DS1817+ is a great entry point for you.
What is the Difference Between the DS1819+ and DS1817+ NAS?
There is no avoiding that comparisons between the Synology DS1819+ and DS1817+ NAS will be made. Given the architecture is so similar, then many users will be wondering whether to wait on the release of the DS1819+ or buy the currently available DS1817+ Diskstation NAS. I would say that if your storage needs are urgent for 2018, then the current DS1817+ diskstation NAS is still an excellent choice for those looking at business applications (though if your budget is a little more flexible and you prioritize power over capacity, the DS3018xs may be more suitable). However, if you have a more controlled budget, need a solution that balances hardware power-storage-price, and can wait till next year, then you should definitely consider the DS1819+ NAS Drive as your next IT purchase for 2019.

When will the Synology DS1819+ NAS be Released?
This is a tricky one, as normally the new units that are uncovered at Autumn Synology launch events are not released until late in Q4 or at the top of Q1 of the following year. However, there is enough interest and demand for the DS1819+ Diskstation NAS right now that I think we might see this land in late November or even early December. Of course, this is based on hearsay and educated guesses, but at the latest, this will be available to buy at the start of 2019. Subscribe or bookmark this page to stay in the loop!
How much will the Synology DS1819+ NAS cost?
As this is an 8-Bay desktop device, the DS1819+ could easily be compared in price with the likewise 8-Bay DS1817+ at around £900 without media, however, if the DS1819+ diskstation NAS features the Intel Atom C3000 based CPU I suspect, then I think we will see prices in excess of £930-950+. Of course, this is mere speculation and we will have a much clearer idea of the price of the Synology DS1416dva when further specifications are revealed and release date made clearer.
