Thunder3 Dock Pro – The World’s first 10GBe Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station
When it comes to Thunderbolt 3 technology, very few companies have innovated in this technology than Akitio. Over the last 2 years, we have seen some frankly incredible hardware from them that has changed the landscape of Mac and Window editing environments. They were the first to release a GPU enabled ePCIe case using TB3 for Mac and Windows. They were the first to release large-scale TB3 Storage, docking stations and a Thunderbolt-to-10Gbe adapter. All of this whilst remaining significantly lower in price than rivals at Drobo, G-Tech and LaCie.
Today they have taken all of that research, development and knowledge of the past 2-3 years and have broken ground on ANOTHER world-first. The Thunder3 Dock Pro is the world’s first 10GBe equipped Thunderbolt 3 Docking station. Alongside the obviously desireable 10GBASE-T port, the devices also arrives with several other ports that enable multiple older and newer connects to work with a single Thunderbolt 3 USB-C (as well as including two TB3 ports, so you are still 1 port up after connecting it!). All this being handled with a cutting-edge internal controller chip.
What are the specifications of the Akitio Thunder3 Dock Pro Docking Station
This is not the first Thunderbolt 3 Docking station ever released and currently, brands like Startech and Sonnet Technology share the top ranks with Akitio in an effort to provide users with a single docking device that provides excellent connectivity and utilization of a single TB3 port.
However, features like the 10GBe 10GBASE-T, CF Card reader supporting USH-II, a vastly better controller and more, this is something that NONE Of the competition currently have. The result is that the Akitio Thunder3 Dock Pro Docking Station is genuinely a game-changing device for those that want unrivalled connection options for their windows or mac system. See below:
- Onboard Aquantia AQC107 Controller

When will the Thunder3 Dock Pro from Akitio be released?
We fully expect to see this device released in time for late Q3 (or Sept/Oct 2018) and demand is going to be high. as mentioned, the Akitio Thunder3 Dock Pro is really going to mix things up and with an expected price tag of a similar level as it’s predecessor (around £200-300 ex.VAT), this is going to sell very well indeed. Currently, you can pickup Thunderbolt 3 to 10GBe adapters for around £180-200, so you would be absolutely crazy not to spend a fraction more and pick up a much more advanced and capable docking station. Stay tuned here to find out more about the new releases being uncovered in and around Computex and CeBit 2018.
