The QNAP HS-453DX 10Gbe Silent 4 Bay SSD NAS

What is the QNAP HS-453DX NAS and why is it a big deal?

With Computex 2018 in progress, we are already seeing some incredibly technology on show. As mentioned before, QNAP is truly the innovators of modern NAS server devices (the first to introduce NAS based Thunderbolt, HDMI 2.0, USB DAS access and more) and already in the very early stages of the event in Tapei, we have seen a new game changer NAS. The new HS-453DX is innovative for so, so many reasons and this bundled with a new chassis and design angle means that this could potentially be the fastest NAS we have ever seen.

This combined with it easily being one of the best looking NAS server devices we have ever seen, mean that the QNAP HS-453DX is definitely something for home and business users to keep an eye on. So, what makes the HS-453DX 4-Bay NAS so special?

What are the Specifications of the QNAP HS-453DX NAS?

The HS-453DX QNAP NAS is classed as a ‘silent NAS’. This is not the first silent NAS QNAP have ever produced (the previous units most memorable being the HS-251+ and the TBS-453A), but this is the first to adopt the latest, popular CPU in the 2018 QNAP NAS line up. However unlike the rest, if the range that has this CPU, this is an SSD dedicated NAS that ALSO features 10GBASE-T (the best, most popular and easiest to adopt 10Gbe network connection). So, in other words, it is fast INSIDE (even in a RAID 5) and fast OUTSIDE. This kind of hardware will make the HS-453DX especially attractive to photo/video editors looking for a fast, powerful, yet quiet NAS for live editing and then distribution. Here are all the specs we know so far:

What is the Difference between the HS-453DX, HS-251+ and the TBS-453A NAS?

As mentioned, the HS-453DX 4-Bay is not the first ‘silent NAS’ that QNAP has ever produced. In the last 2 years, we have seen the HS-251+ 2-Bay HDD specialised NAS and the Group sharing and network sharing enabled TBS-453A Sharing and teamwork NAS. Below are the specs of all three of these NAS devices compared, and it is pretty clear that the newer HS-453DX is better in almost every single way:

When will the QNAP HS-453DX NAS be released?

Unlike the TS-251B 2-Bay and TS-551 NAS, the HS-453DX is a little more specialized than most QNAP NAS and they were especially vague about a release schedule. I hope that this will not be a repeat of the ill-fated TGX-150 from last year and gets cancelled, as I can DEFINITELY see a market for this device. Stay tuned here on NASCompares to learn more about new releases in NAS around COMPUTEX 2018 and at CeBit  2018 new week.
