Brand New E10M20 10G and NVMe SSD Card from Synology Uncovered
Good news for those looking to find out about brand new network attached storage upgrades from the guys at Synology, we are at the Synology Solution Exhibition in Taiwan and are being treated to find out what the company has in store for the second half of 2019 and 2020, say hello to the Synology E10M20 10Gbe and NVMe SSD Upgrade card – YES, They are FINALLY going to do it! Like many of the new releases here, the E10M20 builds on an already well-established catalogue of NAS devices in Synology’s history featuring PCIe and is definitely something you guys have been asking for. Although the model name gives you a good idea of what to expect, or the target audience for the E10M20 seems to be for those who already own a Synology NAS, it is still worth taking a closer look at what we have discovered over here in Taiwan this week. Improving the performance of a bunch of Synology 1st party applications, 3rd party apps, diskstation manager and more, is this going to be your next big hardware purchase to push your current DS1819+, DS2419+ and DS3617xs+ further? Ultimately, will the E10M20 be worth your money?
What are the Hardware Specifications of the E10M20 Caching and 10G Card?
It will come as no surprise to PC builds and those more experienced in servers to know that the hardware that you use in your server can make all the difference. It is not just about power, but efficiency and given the E10M20 NAS upgrade card will be installed in a NAS drive that is powered 24×7, the right specifications can make or break a device! Sadly, details on this PCIe upgrade card for 10Gbe (10GBASE-T) and NVMe SSD m.2 Bays are very thin and we know little more that it supports the very latest FULL-length NVMe SSD (as well as shorter ones) and is a single ethernet port card device.
We will, of course, try to update these specifications as/when we know more, but for now the E10M20 Synology SSD Cache and 10G NIC is shaping up to be pretty neat.
When Will the E10M20 Synology NVMe SSD and 10Gbe Card Be Released?
Release of a new NAS is always something that Synology is always loathed to comment on and the E10M20 card for NAS is no exception. Given the fact that most odd-numbered Synology NAS (ending in 5, 7 and 9) have tended to be released somewhere in Q1/Q2 of the year, and even numbers typically NAS (ending in 4, 6 and 8) arrive in Q3/Q4, we can make an educated guess about the worldwide release of the E10M20 being at the very end of the year or (more likely) early 2020.
If I Cannot Wait Till the Synology E10M20 10G+NVME PCIe Card, What Should I Buy?
The SynologyE10M20 is fantastically uniqueand gives you the advantages of a 10Gbe PCIe card and NVMe SSD card, in a single device – right now most users only have 1 PCIe upgrade slot available and are forced to choose between them. If you cannot wait for the Synology E10M20 NAS release or aren’t won over by the specifications, I recommend the:
Where Can I Buy The Synology E10M20 NAS Drive?
Right now, the Synology E10M20 has only jsut been unveiled, so the official release is no doubt a fair way away. In the past, Synology has always made efforts to release their hardware towards the end of summer and early autumn, and we do not have any reason to see this trend changing. Information like the E10M20 release, confirmation of the specifications and how well this device will support DSM 6.2 and DSM 7.0 in Beta will be updated.
