New QNAP TS-963N NAS featuring RJ45 5Gbe, dedicated SSD Bays and HDD Bays for 2019
Good news for those wondering what QNAP have coming in the next few months, with the unveiling of another updated 9-Bay (5 HDD 3.5″ and 4 SSD 2.5″) NAS for 2019 for their 5Gbe series and it is very much what you would expect from the innovators of NAS industry. This new compact desktop NAS device features tiered Hard Drive and SSD storage bays, that enables the multiple storage options, as well as the ability to create completely independent volumes and separate access speed storage environments. This multi-storage device arrives not only with an unparalleled capacity and access speed choices, but also features a new AMD based CPU and impressive connections in a remarkably compact chassis.
The QNAP TS-963N is a more affordable alternative to the 10Gbe enabled TS-963X released in late 2018. It features an AMD GX-420MC Quad-Core Processor, 2.0Ghz per core and 64bit in architecture. This virtualisation ready CPU arrives with 2/8GB of memory, which can be expanded upto 16GB Memory configuration of DDR4. As this is x86 CPU, this device Supports everything from virtual machine management, Plex (though not really the right NAS for this and awaiting confirmation) snapshots, tiered storage over the different hard drive and solid-state drive media, as well as many, many functions of the QTS 4.4.1 software from large scale IP Camera surveillance, to multimedia use in the home or office via the 10Gbe connection. This device (as well as the 10Gbe previous version) serves as a middle ground between the ARM-based, non-graphical TS-932X (or perhaps TS-932N, but likely not) and the HDMI and Intel-powered TVS-951N/X. blurring the lines between fast affordable and fast capable.

Ports and Rear of the QNAP TS-963N NAS

Who is the QNAP TS-963N NAS for?
The QNAP TS-963N is a NAS designed for those looking for a solid entry point into the world of 5Gbe as it grows in popularity (and lets you take advantage of the QNAP QNA-UC5G1T USB-to-5Gbe adapter in a much more meaningful way), featuring a graphically supported CPU from AMD, this means that virtualisation, on the fly editing of larger and elaborate files and multimedia use is going to be available, at at 5x the usual speed. Additionally, as this is the 5GBASE-T version of 5GBe, it means that it will be the far more affordable and accessible RJ45 based connectivity that you can gradually introduce this NAS and format into your home/office environment. This will be of particular interest to photo editors, videographers and content creators. We are still awaiting more details about how far this device can go with the popular QTS 4.4.1 software from QNAP in terms of multimedia, surveillance, the 1st party office applications and more.
When will the QNAP TVS-963N NAS be Released?
Release details are still very thin on the ground at the moment. This new TS-963N does not have an official release date yet, however, we think it will land in late Q3 or very early Q4 of 2019. The QNAP TS-963N is the latest in a line next-gen NAS devices from QNAP that arrive with 5Gbe connectivity, at an affordable price point for those that looked at 10Gbe and though “ahh…not quite yet”. We hope to see more information on this NAS in the next month or so and will, of course, update you as soon as we hear more.
