Brand New Rackstation NAS – FULL RS3621xs+, RS3621RPxs and RS4021xs+ Specifications Revealed
Good news for those looking at purchasing a new generation rackmount NAS from Synology, with the news that their 2017 generation XS rackstation series has been replaced with a new 2021 range, resulting in the new RS3621xs+, RS4021xs+ and RS3621RPxs Rackstation NAS. These three NAS systems were already revealed a little over 2 weeks ago on NASCompares (forgive the self-plug!) but only now have the specifications been fully fleshed out. These systems are very similar to their previous generation in a few ways, with only small but significant changes between the respective generations in architecture in the case of each device. These product families have always been some of the heaviest hitting system’s in their portfolio, producing the very best experience of DSM as a whole, as well as all of the 3rd party platform support we have come to expect. In fact, last year I publish a video regarding the best multi-user 4K and 8K editing solution for post production companies for £10K and the predecessor to the new RS4021xs+ was that very NAS. Therefore I am interested in seeing what the newer generation can do in order to top this. Let’s take a closer look.
What Are the Hardware Specifications of theRS3621xs+, RS3621RPxs and RS4021xs+ NAS?
Although the DSM (Diskstation Manager) software is really where the bulk of the innovation in a Synology NAS comes from, it would be remiss not to remember that you still need some high-grade hardware at your disposal, to provide both incredible performances, inside and out. All three of the RS3621xs+, RS3621RPxs and RS4021xs+ provide an Intel Xeon (Broadwell) based server system at 6/8 cores, up to 64GB of memory and arrive with a multitude of network connectivity options, PCIe upgradability and storage potential. Each is scaled to prioritize Storage, Power or Both. Take a look at the specifications below:
Note: Green Text means that it is the best option of the three NAS units in this field.

What Are the Software Specifications of theRS3621xs+, RS3621RPxs and RS4021xs+ NAS?
The software performance of the Synology RS3621xs+ and RS4021xs+ are (on the whole) greater than that of the RS3621RPxs, largely thanks to the increased available hardware inside, improved external connectivity with 10Gbe and/or the larger available storage. That said, none of the three systems is exactly taking it easy and all provide easily the best performance and depth of ability of ANY Synolgoy NAS I have seen for a long time. Aside from the hardware featured in one of two or the Flash or SAS based systems in the rackstation portfolio, these three rackmount NAS in the Synology 2021 range are pretty incredible. Here is a breakdown of what they can do in both 1st party and 3rd party applications:

When will the Synology RS3621xs+, RS362RP1xs and RS4021xs+ NAS Be Released and How Much?
Even a casual google of these three Synology rackstation solutions will show you that prices and a release window have been stated online and, now that Synology has published these items on their respective worldwide websites, that means that these three systems are effectively available NOW. So, to confirm, multiple sites have listed the price at the Synology RS3621RPXS – € 3,317.50 (TBC*), the Synology RS3621XSP – € 4,144.00 (TBC*) and the Synology RS4021XSP – € 5,177.50 (TBC*). Other prices shown online have differed higher and lower, which only again shows that you should WAIT till more official sources move forward on pricing and release. No doubt distribution feeds will iron out these pries into something much more concrete. So, it is probably best to hold off doing anything proactive with your budget, or if you are in a pinch, the RS3617RPxs/xs+ and RS4017xs+ are still fantastically viable solutions. Stay tuned!
