The New Akitio Node Duo – A BIGGER kind of Thunderbolt 3 ePCIe

Why is the Akitio Node Duo different to other Node ePCIe?

Akitio has really made a name for themselves in the external PCIe market. They were one of the very first to release a Thunderbolt 3 enabled ePCIe box and over time the Thunder3 and Akitio Node range of external expansion card devices, that let you utilize the power of a PCIe upgrade card via a laptop device have really escalated the company to the big leagues. Today we want to discuss another addition to the Akitio Node family for Mac and Windows users at their private event that took place alongside Computex 2018 in Taipei. The Akitio Node Duo is very much like the AKitio Node lite, in that it is designed to be a much more compact and smaller footprint ePCIe.

It does not support larger GPU cards and a modest PSU (none of the 350W or 550W that bigger beast ePCIe can boast). However, it arrives at a much more comfortable price point and with the ability to support two PCIe cards via a single Thunderbolt USB-C port (though 2x are available for daisy chaining), as well as a DisplayPort and up to 60W power delivery in one of the ports, it is still very much going to be of interest to the wider thunderbolt community.

What are the Specifications of the Akitio Node Duo Thunderbolt3 ePCIe?

The hardware and Specifications of the AKitio Node Duo are very similar to those of the Akitio Node Lite, It is only in areas of power consumption, size of the chassis and the ability to use 2x PCIe cards over the 40Gbps Thunderbolt ports that the AKitio Node Duo has a clear advantage. See below:

When will the Thunderbolt 3 Akitio Node Duo be Released?

Unlike the Akitio Thunder3 Doc Pro in our previous article, we think we will see the release of the AKitio Node Duo to arrive much sooner with a release of mid-to-late August 2018.
