What is AfoBot II from QNAP and IEI?

After previously unveiling their new QNAP AfoBot in late 2017/18, giving us a full preview at CeBit last year, QNAP has once again been showcasing their new personal robot and assistant at this year’s Computex 2019. Designed to provide a smart artificial assistant and the follow up to the QNAP AfoBot, this new model features a bigger screen, more application options, better audio in/out and can be much more fluid and powerful choice for 2019. This and the inclusion of the broader and easier to deploy AfoMeeter add-on is something rather interesting indeed.

The AfoBot robot is equipped with a wide variety of features including voice interaction, face recognition and the ability to place video calls, entertainment, and help you manage your daily life, Thanks to the creation of the AfoTalk mobile app which has been designed to help you communicate with your personal robot as well as keep your family members updated and informed of where you are, what you are doing and share files in real time.

What is the New QNAP x IEI AfoBot II Hardware?

QNAP’s next-generation intelligent robot AfoBot II features an enlarged 10-inch screen and upgraded hardware, including two 5 watt stereo speakers for higher sound quality, a noise-cancelling microphone for better voice recognition, sound source detection that enables automatic rotation, a Mini PCIe slot for installing a 4G LTE module, supports USB to LAN, and HDMI output to a larger screen. AfoBot II is also enhanced with more powerful features for businesses scenarios, such as video conferencing and AI facial recognition. It is ideal as a video call robot, digital signage robot, reception robot, and is also useful in a wide range of fields including smart homes, healthcare, smart banking, smart retail, smart hotels, and more.

Home AI isn’t a new thing and in fact, the most popular examples such as Amazon Echo and Google home are incredibly popular and can be found in most homes today. However ever since I first found out about the AfoBot AI assistant, my attitude towards it has always been one of comparing a private home device with a public AI – Namely, SECURITY!. One of the most popular factors for those looking to buy a QNAP NAS compared with Google Drive or Amazon S3 cloud storage is the fact that your own NAS is truly private compared to third-party clothes and gives you far more controlled and ultimately safe storage. Unlike small digital assistants, AfoBot supports video calling with multiple peers over a mobile phone and connected AfoBot’s. Natural language processing allows for voice commands to request a variety of expected features such as setting alarms, playing music, and getting the latest weather reports. Instead of being a purely utilitarian model, AfoBot has been designed to facilitate ease of communication and improving quality of life among elderly users. There may not be an extensive list of complex queries that AfoBot will respond to right now, but the robot will remain easy to operate.

The AfoBot arrives who is a number of features that are superior to that of both the Amazon and Google home AI. The device arrives with a LCD viewscreen that acts as a visual display for media, as well as an input system and user interface. The AfoBot uses Android back-end with the AfoBot UI overlay on top. it supports numerous Android applications, and many can be used and obtained from the Q Market app which is a streamlined version of the Google Play market store.
