DS918+ alternative

You’re ground me down Rob, I must get a Nap NAS – what is the equivalent QNAP to the Synology DS918+

I want to virtualise and also evaluate for myself.

The Qnap alternative to DS918+ is TS-453B/ 453Be. It features exactly the same CPU but is much more expandable/upgradable. It is very handy that DS918+ already have NVMe cache slots but on Qnap one card will take care of it and also give you 10GbE connectivity if needed. You can also directly connect it to your PC with a USB on the front panel. Software wise Synology offers a better user experience, but Qnap offers more configurations options.

And yes, NAS is an amazing creation. It is so cool to have all things in one box. Multimedia center, surveillance, backup solution, Dropbox alternative and so much more. Once you start using it you find more and more amazing things.
