TOS 5 and the AES 256-bit disk array encryption

One of the key features of TOS 5 is the AES 256-bit disk array encryption, which provides a high level of security for the data stored on the NAS.

AES 256-bit encryption is considered to be one of the most secure encryption methods currently available. It uses a 256-bit key to encrypt and decrypt data, which makes it extremely difficult to crack. With this level of encryption, your data will be protected from unauthorized access and theft, even if the hard drives are stolen.

The disk array encryption feature in TOS 5 allows you to encrypt the entire disk array, which includes all the data on the NAS. This ensures that all your data is protected, not just individual files or folders. The encryption process is transparent to the user, so you don’t have to worry about manually encrypting each file.

 

Enabling entire disk array encryption on TOS 5 is a straightforward process. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Log in to your TerraMaster TOS 5 device’s web interface.
  • From the main menu, select “Storage Manager” and then “Volume” to view your disk volumes.
  • Select the disk volume you want to encrypt, and then click the “Encryption” tab.
  • In the Encryption tab, select the “Entire Volume” option under the “Encryption Scope” section.
  • Choose an encryption algorithm (AES 256-bit encryption is recommended), and then set a password for the encryption key.
  • Click the “Encrypt” button to start the encryption process. This may take some time, depending on the size of your disk volume and the speed of your device.
  • Once the encryption process is complete, you will need to enter the encryption password whenever you access the encrypted volume.

That’s it! Your entire disk array is now encrypted with AES 256-bit encryption. Please note that once the encryption process is complete, it is not possible to disable or remove encryption from the disk volume.
