I work in a small mid size office and we have here an Avid Nexis Server (10x4TB)
Today we have a MacPro that is connected to several Das’s in order to backup via CCC software
also in order to see files, you must install Avid Nexis Client.
Now I am looking for an affordable solution and the best one for the long term.
what would it be?
Nas 40TB (or larger?) how many bays should I get 5/6/8/12? what’s best for future expansion option?
or another DAS?
would love to hear an expert answer.

Your setup looks very professional already. But I can see your disadvantages by having a DAS system. I would suggest you have a look at Qnap Thunderbolt options.
With a Qnap like TVS-1282T3, you will have 4 Thunderbolt ports and also 10GbE ports if you have more then 4 editors in the team. If 10GbE is not enough you can always upgrade it even up to 40GbE and more. It comes with a tiered storage functionality for your cold data, warm data, and hot data and also SSD caching option. This is why this model is a very popular choice among video editors.
On top of that, this DAS/NAS solution will let you share your finished projects with your clients or other teams across the network over the secured transmission.
There is no third party software needed to back things up. It comes with a built-in snapshot technology, so you can revert your project files back into the previous version if needed. To keep things super safe- get another one. And remote replication service will duplicate all your data on both devices just in case one goes down.
This solution seems to be a way forward as it becomes more and more popular.
