Which New releases do we want from QNAP 2017 in NAS at CeBit 2017?
Why is QNAP NAS the NAS Server of choice this 2017?
So do we expect more QNAP NAS at CeBit 2017?
Despite the heavy NAS release of information in the last 6 months, I still think QNAP will unveil some taste treats. More than likely we will see improvements in the QTS software and possibly a TS-453B and TS-853B. If QNAP would really like to shake some features, then the often requested release of an optional Thunderbolt 2 PCIe card would be insanely popular! With the recent release of the incredibly popular TVS-473, TVS-673 and TVS-873, a number of users would welcome the optional ability to ass Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt 3 to their TVS-x73. Below I have outlined those units I believe will be showcased at CeBit Germany 2017 along with a couple of predictions that we all hope to see from QNAP in 2017. You can find a link to QNAP’ stand information at CeBit here and I will of course update you all as and when everything gets released for 2017 during the event.
The QNAP TS-253B NAS
|
Possibly the most anticipated unit for me is the TS-253B NAS from QNAP. It was only vaguely revealed a while ago directly from a QNAP source on twitter and since then no mention has been made. Whether this was an error on their part (bit weird if that is the case, to have it on display) but right now details are very thin and I hope to update you all on the much, much later 2017 release of the TS-253B (and perhaps the TS-453B, TS-653B and maybe even TS-853B if these details unfold). I cannot see this replacing the TS-253A though, as it is just too popular and more tahn likely QNAP are going for a A and B model structure of units.
The Optical Bay enabled 8 Bay NAS was first announced back at January at CES2017 and since then very little information has been revealed. It is a rather niche product but ti has to be said that there IS demand for a NAS with the ability to read and write optical media across CD, DVD and Blu-ray. Add to this the ability to distribute driver and installation software from Disc to Network, then you are looking at a rather diverse piece of kit!
The QNAP TVS-1582TU NAS
|
Almost NOTHING is known about the TVS-1582TU at this time of writing. The market is crying out for a rackmount enabled Thunderbolt NAS and this could well be the unit everyone is waiting for. It has been scantily mentioned in the background of other official QNAP articles online (with regard to compatibility, firmware or connectivity) but with little mention of hardware, the design or even Mac or Windows compatibility. We will of course keep you updated on this and hope that CeBit will finally see this unit unveiled.
Possible the most powerful QNAP Desktop NAS, the QNAP TS-1685 was first revealed in CES2017 and loked like it was going to be the ultimate file server for businesses over 1GBe and 10GBe. After the moderately successful TS-1635 that featured rather modest hardware, it is only natural that QNAP think about using the same chassis design and construction to make a super powerful version for businesses who stop at nothing for data to be distributed and shared at the fastest speed. We hope to see a unit up and running at CeBit 2017 perhaps.
Synology have had tremendous success with their popular branded Synology RT2600AC Router. Likewise QNAP have their own Router, come storage device ready to go and it has already featured at numerous storage events. The TGX-150 is a SSD/HDD enabled router, that is designed to take the Router/switch out of the equation and delivery your network directly into the device. With a host of features and functions, it will be fantastic to see this unit in the wild, as well as seeing how it fairs with the Synology router.
An often asked question regarding the Thunderbolt NAS series from QNAP, can you buy the card separately? The answer is no at the moment and one could argue that this is because QNAP would rather sell the Thunderbolt connectivity with the unit itself, seeing as they are still currently the ONLY NAS brand worldwide with this technology. However i genuinely cannot see it being much longer before they consider seeing the card (as they currently do with 10GBe PCIe cards) as an optional upgrade. Notwithstanding because eventually another company may tac onto the idea of providing this connectivity, but also because the novelty of the connection may run thin and many users will opt to save themselves hundreds of pounds by forgoing the connection and therefore QNAP loses out on a later upsell. Whatever the outcome, the chances of a Thunderbolt PCIe card being revealed by QNAP at CeBit is pretty thin and I only include in a desperate wish to see it happen!
Thunderbolt 3 NAS! As little as 2 years ago, the ideal of a NAS server with Thunderbolt connectivity was thought to be impossible! Now we are so used to the idea of a Network Attached Storage device featuring Thunderbolt for Mac or Windows, that we EXPECT a Thunderbolt 3 NAS. And QNAP are stepping up and giving us exactly what we asked for! Another unit that was mentioned at CES2017, we fully expect the TVS-1282T3 to feature at CeBit 2017 and hopefully be shown in action. With the recent release of the MacBook Pro 2016 with Thunderbolt 3, this will be a welcome addition to many photo and video editing suites and definitely a unit to get excited about.📧 SUBSCRIBE TO OUR NEWSLETTER 🔔
