QNAP TS-473 vs Synology DS1019+ and DS918+

I have been watching a lot of your channel lately there is a lot of information. The amount of all the info is also a little overwhelming. I was hoping you could give me an idea and what would be best between the TS-473 vrs the DS1019+. I know there are some difference but I’m so on the fence, I would like to know more about what you think is possibly the better OS and what has more support and applications etc..
Any advice would be great.

When comparing Qnap with Synology, on the hardware side Qnap will always be a winner. They will sell the same hardware or better for cheaper. But if you need a solution out of the box then it will difficult to compete Synology unified software and its quality. If you want to buy simply RAID hardware and be able of configure things your specific way then Qnap will be the best for you.

Hardware performance comparison

TS-473 is twice as powerful as DS1019+ or DS918+.

TS-473 feature AMD R Series RX-421ND Quad Core 2.1 GHz, Turbo to 3.4 GHz with a speed benchmark 4740.

DS1019+ and DS918+ feature Intel Celeron J3455 Quad Core 1.5 GHz (up to 2.3 GHz)  with a speed benchmark 2153.

On a Qnap you can link aggregate 4 LAN ports and increase data transfer speed 4 times wheres on a Synology you can link only 2 LAN port – doubling your speed.

Qnap will also let you install 10GbE card which would let you increase 10X the transfer speed if you choose right media and RAID revel.

Synology will feature NVMe (around 2000MB/s) slots for cache where as Qnap will have regular SATA (500MB/s) M.2 cache slots (but you can install a card for NVMe cache). On a Synology you can only use these cache slots for boosting performance of the NAS. Qnap will let you set these SSD up like additional storage. This is useful for video editors and high IOPS operations.
