I work out of one of two home offices 80% of the time and I travel and work in the field 20% of the time. I work with a dual SSD drive laptop, which the 2nd drive is used for virtual machines and data backups of the C drive data. My actual files on my WIN 10 laptop are currently using an enterprise grade cloud based sync folder similar to cloud station called sharesync.
My wife also has a WIN 10 laptop and goes to both locations but only uses Cloud Station for personal use (lots of pics)
EQUIPMENT
I have 3 different Synology NAS devices. One of which I have been using, but I wish to start over and do everything from scratch the right way.
Current NAS configs:
Main NAS
DS216+II with 8 Gig mem, 2 4TB WD Red Enterprise drives (7200 RPM) SHR RAID 1, DSM 6.xSecond NAS
DS212j with 256 Meg mem, 2 2TB WD Red Enterprise drives (7200 RPM) SHR RAID 1, DSM 6.xThird NAS
DS109 with 128 Meg mem, 1 3TB WD Green(5400 RPM), DSM 4.2-3259
I think you have figured it out already. The only thing I would add is High availability.
Supported models as follows:
19 series: RS1619xs+, RS1219+, DS2419+, DS1819+, DS1019+
18 series: FS1018, RS3618xs, RS2818RP+, RS2418RP+, RS2418+, RS818RP+, RS818+, DS3018xs, DS1618+, DS918+, DS718+
I would go for two DS718+, then use old DS216+ to synchronise the main NAS and enable cloud backup for most important files.
Also enabling snapshots will protect your data from internal data loss. Accidental deletion, moving, changing files. You can then restore your files and folder into a previous versions.
