Upgrade of QNAP TVS-671 (CPU and GPU)

Upgrade of QNAP TVS-671 (GPU)

I am looking for help to get around an upgrade problem with a QNAP TVS-671 (used for Plex) when installing a GPU.

I bought this unit recently to provide a NAS capable of hardware transcoding for Plex. The spec was a Core i3 with 4 GB. I have now upgraded this to a Core i7-4790S with 16GB and I have installed 36TB of HDD – all good at this stage.

I then wanted to install a GPU that would provide NVENC and decided that a NVidea Quadro P620 would be the best option (given the limited 250W PSU) as this only draws 30W.

I manually installed the QNAP Nvidea Driver Pack and then installed the P620 card into the PCie Gen 3 x8 Slot (connector is open back, so installs fine).

When I power on, it will not boot and it will not get pass the first beep (initialisation). I have checked the BIOS settings and there is no option to change Video from Integrated to PCI (no video option at all).

Now I am stuck and need help, has anyone managed to successfully add a GPU to a QNAP x71 NAS and able to advise?. I suspect that I may need to upgrade the BIOS to a version that would support switching the video (possibly using a BIOS for a different QNAP model?), but I do not know what BIOS version to use or the upgrade process and I want to avoid trashing the system.

Would really appreciate any constructive advise or feedback.

First of all, nice work with a successful CPU upgrade. Many people do this because Qnap themselves do not make NAS models with this spec.

Regards to GPU. Yes, it looks like this model do not support GPU upgrades. There are many models that do support it but not this one.

I hope this helps.
