Qnap have released their new Dual-port 10GbE + 8 port 2.5GbE switch QSW-M2108R-2C. Why this is a big deal? This will be an affordable solution for those who want to move into 10GbE world. Only two 10GbE ports (sfp+ or rj45 in any combination) can be used at the same time. But this is enough to connect a NAS and your Computer. No need to configure IP and mess around the settings to make a 10GbE NAS work point to point.
It has a Switching Capacity (Switching fabric) 80Gbps. Way enough to handle traffic through all ports. It is also a managed switch which allows you to do port trunking (link aggregation). So if you have a dual LAN NAS you can combine the 1GbE speeds or combine 2.5GbE speeds.
Or if you have a 10GbE NAS you can share this bandwidth across 8 slower LAN connections. No more fighting for local network bandwidth to your NAS.
Entry-level 10GbE and 2.5GbE Layer 2 Web Managed Half-Width Rackmount Switch for Small Businesses
The QSW-M2108R-2C is a Layer 2 Web Managed Switch with two 10GbE SFP+/RJ45 combo ports and eight 2.5 Gigabit ports. Supporting Layer 2 switching and network management via a user-friendly web user interface, the QSW-M2108R-2C offers flexible deployment in hybrid high-speed network environments and provides an entry-level network management solution. With a half-width design, two QSW-M2108R-2C can be installed in a 1U rack space for space-saving. The QSW-M2108R-2C is compatible with 10GbE and NBASE-T technologies, supporting up to five speeds (10G / 5G / 2.5G / 1G / 100M) to provide higher transmission speeds when using existing Cat 5e and 6a cables.
Half-width design, 2 models in 1U
With a half-width rackmount design, two QSW-M2108R-2C can be installed in a 1U rack space for efficient physical space utilization and tidy cabling.
Note: A rackmount kit is required if two QSW-M2108R-2C are installed

What is the difference?
qsw-m2108r-2c – rack mount model
qsw-m2108-2c – desktop model
qsw-m2108-2s – desktop SFP+ only model
SFP only model is missing on :
IEEE 802.3an 10G BASE-T
IEEE 802.3bz 2.5G/5GBase-T
Flexible deployment combo ports and 10GbE / NBASE-T
The QSW-M2108R-2C is compatible with 10GbE and NBASE-T technologies to support five speeds (10G / 5G / 2.5G / 1G / 100M) using existing Cat 5e and Cat 6a cables. The SFP+/RJ45 (copper) combo ports provide higher transmission speeds with existing cables. Depending on cable type and lengths, different speeds can be achieved for faster, more efficient data transfer.
Note: If the distance between the switch and the device is less than 45 meters (148 feet), a Cat 6 cable can be used to achieve up to 10Gb/s.
