XRAID vs RAID5/6 vs SHR – best for storage expansion

40TB and growing, need expandable solution

Storing a lot of video files. We add about 10TB each summer. I want a netgear 2312 12 bay, because with XRAID you can just plug in new drives to expand the storage.

What do you suggest?

XRAID is differently named RAID5/6. With Qnap and Synology you can also add or replace drives without formatting existing drives. Additionally you can also have multiple volumes not just one. If you go for SHR RAID option, not only you can do all above but also you can mix different size drives and gain more storage space.
But Netgear is a reliable brand. But if you want some more functionality such as version control, snapshots and better backup apps then Synology and Qnap will offer just that.
Alternative to Netgear 2312 would be Atom or Ryzen based models such as plus series rack https://www.synology.com/en-uk/products?bays=12&chassis=2U%2C3U
