Can I transcode a 1080p ProRes LT .mov file to 1080p (h264) .mp4 with Qnap NAS?

QNAP Transcoding + SAS Drives Selection

I love your nascompares.com endeavour. It has been informative in choosing the NAS for my small business.
I’ve chosen the QNAP TVS-872XT for a variety of reasons but I have couple of questions I can’t find an answer to… Maybe you can help?

1. Video Transcoding: Can I transcode a 1080p ProRes LT .mov file to 1080p (h264) .mp4 with that NAS? And will I be able to automate the process from a portable HDD in the front “USB copy” port?
(the reason I’m unsure is because I read you can only transcode down resolution ie from 4K to 1080 but I’m uncertain about 1080 to 1080)

2. What 4TB SAS drives are optimised for video editing (fast workflow to handle files like ie. Canon RAW Light at 1Gbps?) Most likely speed, cache/buffer and interface are important)? I can’t seem to find matching/comparable specs categories for the HDDs on my supplier’s website cplonline.com.au

Yes, no one has asked this question. so I presume the answer is Yes. I know that on the fly transcoding will change the format of the video if TV does not support the file. It would not downscale the quality. Similar to Offline transcoding, you make a setting that all converted videos need to be in particular format, and Qnap will make sure all videos are converted to this.

If you have a SAS NAS box then I would recommend Exos SAS drives. But if you have a SATA NAS, then WD Pro or Ironwolf Pro drives will be a good choice.

I hope this helps.
