NAS for multimedia, photoshop and more

I have been looking for some time for a NAS solution and am bewildered by the terminology, features and possibilities. I stumbled across your site with much relief.

I am hoping you can advise me.

Primary needs:
– store music, photos, documents and video
– access wireless around the home via TV, laptop, tablet, phone and PC
– access remotely from phone, tablet, laptop and pc
– secure remote access

Secondary needs/wants/wouldn’t mind if it dids:
– hook up home CCTV
– stream video via Kodi or Roko or similar
– run desktop apps like photoshop (I am not sure if this is possible or if this is really a server function?)
– host email

With all these requirements, you will need to have a look at DS718+. It comes with Intel processor and transcoding engine built in. This will allow you to not only stream multimedia in your local network, but also remotely on your phone when you are away.

It will come with apps for many different platforms like mobiles and computers. Synology free surveillance software will also surprise you with built in artificial intelligence functions.

If you want to install photoshop on the NAS, then DS718+ is capable of running a windows on its virtual machine. Then you can install any windows based app on it and access this remotely.

The recommended hard drives will be WD Red or Seagate Ironwolf. These drives will save the energy when no one is accessing the data and also be quieter then regular hard drives.
