NAS for Plex and Docker apps with upgrade/expansion option

Hello I’m looking for a suggestion of a great NAS w/ future proofing. I currently have an (underwhelming) WD MyCloud EX4

I’m looking for PLEX transcoding, and ability to run common media center apps that are well supported on the platform either from the vendors App Store or via Docker so I can transition off the Mac Mini HTPC.

Future proofing for me.. would be at least 4 bays ; w/ expandability or flexibility in RAID volumes, and the potential for 10 gig networking in the future.I’ve been frustrated by the EX4 in transfer speed, bonding both 1gb ports didn’t provide much speed increase, DEARTH of apps and unified searching capabilities, and mediocre sync to my workstation.

Thunderbolt DAS might come along w/ the features I’m looking for but it’s not my intent.

Very unified search functionality will be on DS1618+ as well as expandability and upgrade to the 10GbE. You can get many apps for free as well as docker apps. A very similar alternative to Synology is Qnap TS-453B (53Be budget option). With Synology, you can mix the drives if necessary. With Qnap you get a bit more value for money – hardware wise.
