QM2 Compatibility with TS-453/853BU
Hi, I was just looking to learn which QM2 cards are supported at “full speed” with the TS-853BU-4G. From what I can gather it has a Gen2 x2 slot for expansion. This would mean that only the QM2-2S-220A would work at “full speed” for M.2 expansion? Any other card would fit the slot but there is not enough bandwidth to natively support for example a QM2-2P-344?
Yes you are right. PCIe gen2 can deliver somewhere around 1000-2000MB/s. Having a card with four NVMe SSDs will max out somewhere in a range of promised PCIe bandwidth. This would be potentially a waste of the money. But I think there are situations when dual NVMe card will be a better option than dual SSD.
Dual SSD would not max out at potential bandwidth limit. There are always overheads. Two NVMe would be slightly more expensive but it would guarantee that it is using maximum the PCIe can offer. The next option would be getting a card with four SSD option.
I hope this helps.
