Can the Synology DiskStation DS218+ NAS be attached to the new Synology MR2200ac Mesh Router to eliminate the need for a 3rd party USB wireless network adapter? I want to give my Synology DiskStation DS218+ NAS wireless capability without the necessity of purchasing a potentially unreliable USB wireless network adapter that might not be compatible with my Synology DiskStation DS218+ NAS.

Yes, you can turn your NAS into a WiFi capable solution by connecting Mesh router to it. But you will need to do a little bit of configuration to do so. It will not appear a USB WiFi dongle in Synology configuration panel.

You will need to set mesh router up as a WiFi access point and connect it to your main router wirelessly. It would be better to connect everything with ethernet cables instead.

The USB dongle would be a simpler solution if you need to connect your NAS with a router where a wired network is impossible. Or consider Powerline adapter – which is using power sockets instead of ethernet cables.
