Kioxia and SanDisk Achieve Record 4.8Gb/s NAND Interface Speed
At ISSCC 2025, Kioxia and SanDisk announced a groundbreaking advancement in 3D flash memory, achieving a 4.8Gb/s NAND interface speed. The new technology leverages Toggle DDR6.0, an innovative Separate Command Address (SCA) protocol, and Power Isolated Low-Tapped Termination (PI-LTT) to improve efficiency and reduce power consumption.
Compared to their 8th-generation flash memory, this innovation delivers a 33% speed increase and up to 34% power savings in data output. With AI-driven workloads on the rise, Kioxia and SanDisk believe this next-gen flash memory will enhance storage solutions for high-performance applications, including AI-driven data centers and enterprise SSDs.
Counterfeit IronWolf HDDs Enter the Market
Reports of counterfeit Seagate IronWolf and IronWolf Pro HDDs have surfaced, following a similar scandal involving Exos drives. Fraudsters have been erasing SMART parameters to hide operational hours, selling used drives as new. Investigations reveal that modified QR codes on labels redirect to Seagate’s warranty check page without displaying serial numbers or capacity, further complicating verification.
Seagate has confirmed the issue and is actively investigating. Users are urged to check extended FARM values using smartmontools or monitor SATA Phy Event Counters on Western Digital drives to detect potential tampering.
OpenSSH Vulnerabilities Discovered After a Decade
Security researchers at Qualys have uncovered two major vulnerabilities in OpenSSH that have existed since 2014 and 2023, respectively. The first flaw (CVE-2025-26465) enables man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks under specific conditions, allowing attackers to hijack SSH sessions and inject commands. The second vulnerability (CVE-2025-26466) can be exploited for denial-of-service (DoS) attacks by sending specially crafted ping packets.
Administrators are advised to update to OpenSSH 9.9p2 immediately to mitigate these risks, as older versions remain vulnerable.
SSD Prices Plummet Due to Oversupply
Market analysts at Trendforce predict falling SSD prices in the coming months due to an oversupply of NAND flash memory. Demand for AI PCs and data centers has been weaker than expected, forcing manufacturers to reduce production to stabilize pricing.
While SSD prices have dropped by 15-20% compared to last year, a price rebound is anticipated in the latter half of 2025 as new AI models drive renewed demand for high-performance storage.
