Synology DS920+ NAS – Leaked Information
For those of you that have been waiting for the Synology DS920+ NAS, it certainly has been a long wait. The follow up to the popular DS918+ (now coming up around 3 years since release) has been on the shopping lists of many buyers for a long time and many people were starting to think that Synology had started abandoning their release strategy of bi-annual releases all together in favour of more simplified portfolio. When looking for a powerful 4-Bay from Synology, aside from enterprise surveillance DVA3219 released last year, there has not been much better a choice than the DS918+, in lieu of a lack of 2020 follow up. However, today we came across a little bit of information that seemingly indicates that the Synology DS920+ NAS is indeed happening and perhaps soon.

Disclaimer – If you are looking for hardware specifications (CPU, memory, connections, architecture) then you might want to stop reading now. This article is about the information that indicates that the DS920+ NAS is very much in development. If you came for the data sheets and specs, I am afraid I will disappoint you on this one for now.
What do we know about the DS920+ NAS so far?
The new Plus series Diskstation NAS range from Synology is largely unknown. The last entries being all part of the RackStation series. But the DS920+ (along with a few others in the DS220+, DS720+ and DS420+) has been revealed to us in the form of documentation that was passed to us earlier today. Below is said information:
Now, it is worth highlighting that this information does NOT 100% guarantee this product is going to come. We have seen examples in the past of import/export docs relating to new hardware from many brands that ended up not arriving at the commercial level, or being held, reimagined and arriving in a bigger, better and more modern form down the line (DS619slim > DS620slim for example), but these are quite formal steps for a brand to take and I think would heavily indicate that the DS920+ NAS is indeed real and on the road to release.

When Do We think the Synology DS920+ NAS Diskstation will be Released?
Of course, the release of the Synology DS920+ is the bigger question. I think we can comfortably state a few things, if indeed the DS920+ information above relates to concrete product development. 1, that the naming of the product into the DSx20+/2020 naming convention relates to it being a release in the first 6-8 months of the year, as Synology typically will assign the YEAR stamp to a model ID when it arrives in the first half (8 months at a push) of the year, with anything afterwards being designated the year after (eg 2021 / DSx21+). The next consideration is, of course, the impact of COVID-19 on all areas of brand production, distribution and buyer engagement. This means that we can certainly consider that the DS920+ (if at all) in late Summer, early autumn. Many would have no doubt speculated this already (as they did last year for 2019/2020), but still never the less this does seem to be a more formal step in the right direction.
