I am interested in buying the NAS TS-x53B, and have two questions regarding the same.
1. I am interested in the DAS functionality of this device, and was wondering if the unit when connected via USB is recognized as a network drive or an external drive! So, when I will connect the NAS device through USB quick access port to my Windows pc, will my PC show the NAS as a network drive or just like an external drive?
2. I am a home user, and only two people will use this NAS. So, could you suggest me between 2 and 4 bay, in regards to portability (size of device), and future upgradability?
Please help me in this regard so that I can make a purchase decision. And thank you for the videos on youtube, great work. I am really interested in buying one now.
The answer is a network drive. Qnap is tricking the system by creating network connection over USB connection. The speed for the same reason will be limited to 1GbE which is around 100MB/s. It will be a very similar situation with thunderbolt 453bt3 model.
The x53B series will be a good solution for more than 2 people. The direct connectivity is not very interesting feature if you are not a photo or video editor. The most of the fun is in the network connectivity. You can share things locally and also remotely. The feature like video transcoding will solve the problems like streaming over slow networks or mobile devices not supported video formats. Once you start using NAS you find more and more fun things you can do!
