TVS-1282T3 vs TS-883XU for collaborative video editing
We are looking for a NAS to work in a 10GB Ethernet environment with 4+ people in parallel collaboratively inside DaVinci Resolve with 4k video projects. Incl. grading and fusion. Ideally, the NAS will be located in its own server room in a server cabinet, where also the editing computer is located, which is connected by fiber to the grading room. Since we make a lot of documentaries, we will need 64TB storage, because there is a lot of recording material.
I am looking right now in all directions and am happy about any advise, also in the direction of Synology. But also I figured out, that the QNAP TVS-1282T3 might be a good choice. On the other hand, I am wondering if i should take QNAP TS-883XU with added m.2 SSD Cache and RAM.
TVS-1282T3 is a very popular choice but if you need something more expandable then TS-883XU will be a better choice. That’s true, that you will need to install a cache card because there are no built-in slots. But you still have few more PCIe slots for expansion. You can then either directly connect via dedicated ethernet port or via the switch with link aggregated 10GbE or even faster network card. You will need at least PRO drives or SSD in order to achieve the best performance.
