Beginner’s NAS with media decoding

Beginner’s NAS. I’m new to this and want a way to back up multiple computers and large media files (approximately 1.2 TB). I would like at least 4 drives so I can have redundancy in case of failure (I want to minimize my chance of losing my media). I also want CPU power to be able to decode and send media files to my Apple TV.

I would recommend ds418play (or at least ds418 if budget is small). The “play” means that is made with multimedia in mind. It features transcoding engine which allows multimedia files of all size and encoding to be played on all sorts of mobiles devices and TVs including Apple TV.
