NAS for editing, exporting 150 images for each day

8 bay, 30+ tb 10GbE.

– 1-2x per week, I download 100-400 gb at once (from a laptop used in the field at a horse show)
– maintain 15+ gig archive of 1.5-3 million images (per year, keep 2 years active)
– needs to serve up files / export files from various lightroom catalogs (stored on local PC drives)
– A typical order means finding year\show\day\rider#\ then editing, exporting 150 images for each day they order (2-5).

Read/write speed crucial.

Most advanced tasks:
– Sharing small percentage of folders with customers
– Uploading to cloud or another NAS stored elsewhere
– Possibly doubling as a PLEX server (not a necessity, using desktop currently)

DS1817+ is what you are looking for. You can link aggregate 4 ports at the back or simply set them up for load balancing. Or if that is not enough do install 10GbE card. If you are the only editor – you can connect directly to your PC without 10GbE switch.

Why Synology? Because of their app called Moments. It has a built-in sort of artificial intelligence which will allow you to filter your image very quickly. The filters include location, time and even places and, objects and faces seen in pictures. Very handy for photo editors and also home users.
