I am looking to play 4k atmos through my Yamaha receiver are there any NAS that can handle that or do I want an HTPC?
There are several options for you stream from your NAS 4K atmos to your receiver. You can use analog ports found on a Qnap TS-253b/ 453b. Also with a little tweaking, you can connect Qnap to the receiver over HDMI cable. Or you can stream over ethernet using qnap 53b series or Synology plus series like ds218+. All of these are lossless ways of streaming audio.
Dolby Atmos Receivers
HTPC
Audio Cable, 3.5mm Stereo Jack to 2 RCA
