WD PR2100 or the Synology DS218+ or DS718+ -Time Machine, FireTV, backups

I need my NAS to basically store and stream movies, mainly 1080p but eventually, 4K would be nice. Only a couple of users one on a MacBook and the other my Sony TV via Firestick. I will use the NAS to store Time Machine for three Apples.

I’m torn between the WD PR2100 and the Synology DS 218 or 718 + but thinking it really has to be Quad core and the 218+ is “only” 2 core so transcoding may be an issue?

Many people are disappointed with WD PR user interface and limited functionality. Synology will really amaze you with the things you can make it do. The DS218+ is slightly limited, but it will transcode videos just fine. But dual LAN ports on a DS718+ will become very handy when time machine backups are running in the background. This can slow things down over a single LAN connection. Also fire stick come with DS Video app which is Synology own created video organizing app.

If I had to choose it would definitely be ds718+ as it would be the most future-proof solution.
