Which NAS to buy for Photography business. I am looking to invest in a NAS, primarily for my wife’s photography business. She uses iMac, MacBook, Ipad, Iphone. I use Windows PC and will need some space on the NAS. Almost all of her storage requirements are still photographs, with a very small element of video. The plan is to store everything on the NAS and probably even have a backup NAS at a separate premises, with regular backup \ synchronization. Not sure if Sarah will do all editing on her MacBook \ IMac and then transfer or edit from the NAS itself. We will obtain a suitable network switch (1Gbps) for her office to interconnect everything. Unfortunately our broadband router is downstairs – we only use WiFi at the moment but obviously, that will not be adequate for Mac – NAS comms. I am more likely to buy Synology as I know other people that use them for home use. Probably would consider s primary unit to give more expandability options in future. Would appreciate your view.
Hmmm, as little as possible but expecting to pay £400 upwards.
As a business user, you need to think about upgradability and expansion possibilities. The best solution would be TS-453B /TS453Be with an option to add PCIe cards if needed (10gbe or cache). Alternatively, DS918+ will be a great option and will also be expandable as well as upgradable (but no 10gbe). Synology is more home user-friendly option whereas Qnap is more like business friendly with its configurable options.
Editing over WiFi will indeed be not a good idea. But once you get all connected over ethernet, either choice will work for you very well.
