QNAP is not the first company out there to produce a functional and easy 10G to Thunderbolt 3 converter and in fact, there are already 2-3 really good adapters out there right now from Sonnet, Akitio and ATTO (see the links at the bottom if you are keen on a ‘right now’ solution). The need for a Thunderbolt 3 equipped Mac/Windows machine to be able to access a 10GBe NAS or network has been growing in popularity over recent years and the advantages of connecting to a 10x usual speed network environment as well as a 10x regular access speed storage solution clear to content creators. Details are still painfully thin on the QNAP QNA-T310G1T and QNA-T310G1S price and it’s unlikely that we will see this before the end of the year. However, it is still worth highlighting two important factors. First is that both versions of the QNAP 10Gbe-to-TB3 adapter have featured in official QNAP broadcasts about the HS-453DX and TVS-x72XT series – both due for release this year, so we may still see a Q4 release for the QNA-T310G1T and QNA-T310G1S. The 2nd factor is that QNAP has a tendency to give you a lot more hardware for your money in most instances and are most likely to give you the best hardware vs price when the QNA-T310G1T and QNA-T310G1S are released.
