SSD caching
Is it possible to buy a QNAP 4-bay NAS, populate 2 bays with NAS HHD’s, then throw in say a 250gb SSD into the third bay and set it as an SSD cache? Also, to do caching does it take two memory modules or can you set it up with one like my proposed example above?
Yes, you can use your empty bays on the NAS to install SSD cache. You can then choose between Read cache, write cache or both (need two SSD).
You can also use free bays to combine SSD and get more storage per bay.
Here is the accessories list:
- QDA-A2AR drive adapter: Accommodates two 2.5-inch SATA drives within a 3.5-inch SATA drive bay with up to 6 Gb/s file transfer speeds. No software driver is required, and it can be installed in a PC/workstation (Windows, Linux) or QNAP NAS. Supports hardware RAID, and provides a disk mode switch tool for selecting RAID modes (Individual, JBOD, RAID 0, or RAID 1). Windows users can use the QNAP External RAID Manager utility to view the RAID and disk information.
- QDA-A2MAR drive adapter: Accommodates two M.2 2280 SATA SSDs within a 2.5-inch SATA drive bay with up to 6 Gb/s file transfer speeds. A high-quality metal construction assists in dissipating heat from the M.2 SSDs to ensure high performance.
- QDA-UMP drive adapter: Accommodates an M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSD within a 2.5-inch U.2 (SFF-8639) SSD drive bay with up to PCIe Gen3 x4 file transfer speeds. No software driver is required, and it can be installed in a PC/workstation (Windows, Linux) or QNAP NAS. Windows/Linux users can use utilities from their SSD manufacturer or third-party provider to view SSD information. The aluminum-alloy top and bottom frame assists in dissipating heat from the M.2 SSD to ensure high performance.
- QDA-SA drive adapter: Designed for QNAP Enterprise ZFS NAS, and allows the use of a SATA 6Gbps drive in a 3.5-inch SAS drive bay while the SATA drive can share SAS dual-port advantages to ensure a high-availability, fault tolerant enterprise storage environment. (Sold in a pack of four. Order number: QDA-SA-4PCS)
I hope this helps.
