Which SSD cache should I use for my NAS?
There are two main types of M.2 SSD. One is regular SATA speed and there is NVME M.2 SSD. The difference is quite significant. SATA speed is around 500MB/s whereas NVMe is above 2000MB/s.
Not all NAS support NVME speed. You need to check specs. Here is a short list of M.2 compatibility per NAS:
NAS with built in cache slots
RS1619xs+ – built in NVME cache
DS918+ – built in NVME cache
DS1019+ – built in NVME cache
upcoming DS920+, DS718+, DS420+ – built in NVME cache
NAS with NVME PCIe card
