NAS for video editing in AVID

Thanks for your insights here and I will buy through your site, providing I can find the right NAS system.

I have an AVID system (2020 HP Zbook Laptop PC but also an older version running on an old 2009 MAC ) and I want to use HD only footage, about 20TB worth, for a long term personal project.
These video files would be H264 but I would like to check through the footage from different rooms in the house, as I don’t want to be in the edit suite all the time.
Basically I AMA in the footage and then transcode in AVID.
I was thinking of just getting another extra 20TB RAID drive but thought a NAS might be more use and maybe even use it for music and video entertainment in the future.
I’m a bit of a newbie but do you think you could recommend a system for me please?

If all you have is HD video to edit then 1Gbit network should be enough. Lately, we have been testing 5GbE USB adapter and it works with a Synology. So this would be a safety net if you get a NAS without a PCIe slot or built-in 10GbE. TS-453D would be an option (also 2/6 bays available). Or from Synology DS920+.

Accessing via Ethernet would be crucial unless you have WiFi6 at home with no interference and slowdown from other devices.

The most popular choice among video editors are Qnap TVS-472XT /672XT/872XT (also 5GBE model 72N available). You can use those directly connected or via network.

These are the best option for HD video editing. With 4K do consider 10GbE or Thunderbolt.
