2 or 3 wi-fi cameras
LOTS of video, various formats (movies, TV)
VM server emulation
Remote access to NAS

up to $1000 for box

I would recommend either x53 (453be, 653b) or x73e (473e, 673e) series from Qnap. They come with a PCIe slot for later upgrades like 10gbe or graphics card or many other cards. It will cope with cameras, video formats up to 4K and virtualization. And all these things can be accesses and managed remotely.
