My question relates with Photos editing and storage of Photos.
I have the DS 716 II+ and I recently purchased the Luminar 4 and Aurora HDR. My PC 1 month old (HP Envy 32″) with only 512 GB SSD and going through the setup as outined : https://skylum.com/blog/lightning-fast-photo-edits-foolproof-storage
However, my question is pretty basic and wondering when I purchase a SSD for my Photos where I will be housing and editing from whether that should be connected to the NAS or if it should be connected to my HP PC then the NAS periodically picks up any changes to that SSD and saves it to the NAS?
I think it makes sense to be connected to the PC because it is faster vs connected to the NAS which has a slower processor.
Yes, directly attached storage device will be always faster then network-connected devices unless you invest in 10Gbit or faster network. Qnap TS-453BT3 and TVS-472XT have managed to please both worlds. So you can connect via Thunderbolt and Ethernet at the same time.
But it is also a good backup option to edit using a fast SSD drive connected to your PC and use NAS for automated data sync from SSD to a NAS. If you have a bigger team, then you can consider 10GbE NAS which would allow people to collaborate o the project files.
I hope this helps.
