Drobo B800i alternative ISCSI drive for MAC and Windows
My Drobo b800i keep rebooting and my not be recoverable. I have a Drobo 5D3 connected to my MAC and a Synology 1511+.
Looking to replace the Drobo B800i wit h something I can connect to my MAC and Windows with Iscsi connection and performance over the network.
Should I consider Drobo again or Synology? If so what model and why?
With that many drive you should already consider having 10GbE setup. You have all this potential but you are limited to your network card. There is a Synology alternative to a Drobo Business B1200i which can be set up as iSCSI drive. If I need to recommend one – it is DS3617xs (link). It will offer you much more functions then Drobo ever would. Also their free replacement offer is tempting. Synology has automatic load balancing function available achieving better transfer speeds even with unmanaged switch. But most important thing is- you can put even Qnap made 10GbE card (around 100$) and get a two port 10GbE + 1Gbe switch (around 200$) . Now you have much higher IOPS and general transfer speeds.
