I run a small video production company where I’m the only full time employee. I’ve been piece mealing my backups for a while and I need to just get a real solution. Currently I have a Mac Pro connecting via thunderbolt to a 48TB G-Tech Studio XL. Every night half that backs up to a 30TB Lacie 5big, and the other half goes to a OWC Thunderbay, both copying via Carbon Copy Cloner. I’ve also “archived” some old project to two Drobos. But I’m constantly running out of space on my backups and approaching running out of space on my Studio XL.
When data is growing at this speed, you might consider a rackmount solution. You can build a tower of expansion racks on top of each other. But you need server room for that because of noise it will create. It will also require upgrading to 10GbE (There are also thunderbolt rack options available). Another option is deleting footage once editing is done and keep the only finished product.
Very popular desktop NAS choice thunderbolt/ NAS TVS-1282T3. It is not the cheapest but allows 4 TB connections and 10Gbe as well. It can be expanded to almost 60 drives with several expansion boxes.
If you do not want to edit from a NAS directly then you can find a cheaper NAS which can be expanded – like x82 series.
