Synology DS119j or LinkStation 210.
I currently own a Synology DS108j that is about to die on me. The main use is for storing and playing movies on my smart tv and Android devices, I may look into setting up a personal cloud later on. I like the interface of my current device but it seems to offer more that I need to. I’m basically looking for something reliable, fast and quiet with low power consumption but I can’t seem to decide between these two.

People who own LinkStation 210 do not seem to be very happy. And understandably. It is a budget solution and can not compete with market leaders like Synology. I would not even recommend DS119j because of its poor performance. If you need something fast and reliable – the only one bay solution is DS118. It is a great home NAS capable of streaming videos even remotely away from home. DS119j would be still a slow solution and very basic at its functionality.
