Migrating from WD My Cloud Home
I have had a WD My Cloud Home for a year but upgrading to a DS920+ – is there a way to migrate the data directly?
If you had a fast USB3 backup disk, then the quickest option would be to restore data from a backup of your WD NAS to a new Synology NAS.
Alternatively, you can mount a WD NAS to your Synology via Ethernet. Here is how https://nascompares.com/map-network-drive-in-synology/Keeping an old WD as a remote backup would be a good idea and protect you from disasters like fire/floor/ theft.
But if you wanted to keep old drives and use them in a Synology then if you had RAID1 you could do the following:
- take one disk out from WD
- put it into a Synology
- Set up SHR or other RAID on a Synology
- Mount the drive WD drive via Ethernet
- Copy data over
- move another drive to a Synology
- expand the RAID.
I hope this helps.
