Crucial T700 PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD is available

Exciting news in the world of technology! Micron’s subsidiary, Crucial, has unveiled the first PCIe 5.0 SSD, the Crucial T700. This new generation SSD achieves up to 12 GB/s and 1.5 million IOPS, making it twice as fast as the previous generation with PCIe 4.0. The controller is the Phison E26, and the T700 uses Micron’s 232-layer TLC NAND with 3 bits per cell. The market launch is scheduled for May, with the T700 being offered with capacities of 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB in M.2 format with a heat sink.

Although other brands like Corsair and Gigabyte have also released their first PCIe 5.0 SSDs, the Crucial T700 is faster, reaching a maximum performance of 12 GB/s and 11 GB/s sequential read and write. The 2 TB and 4 TB models deliver the maximum performance, while the 1 TB variant still manages 11.5 GB/s reading and 8.5 GB/s writing.

The Crucial T700’s performance leap is impressive when compared to its predecessor, with the Crucial P5 Plus achieving a maximum of 6,600 MB/s reading and 5,000 MB/s writing as well as 720,000 IOPS. The T700 is also faster than the Samsung 990 Pro, which has up to 7,450/6,900 MB/s in sequential read and write, but with up to 1.55 million IOPS in random writing.

The T700 has been tested in various practical applications, showing a significant improvement in loading times of tested games, with an increase of about 10 percent. Although the high write rate is only available for a certain amount of data when the SSD works in SLC mode, the T700 still writes in TLC mode with 3 GB/s, which is still fast.
